Every Bro on the Go
Just did an early-sunday morning digital painting, yet another attempt at someone from HIMYM (the other six paintings so far completely don't work). 45 minutes on this one, almost like it was an actual speed-painting.

Another Riot Comes to an End!
Crazy news! My thesis has been finished for a couple months! Woah!
It won't be publicly online for a while, but for anyone who wants to see it there is a private copy up. I'm now living in LA and getting into the kickass animation industry here. And now that I remembered this blog exists, I might as well use it to post whatever random things a plucky young space cadet starting in LA usually posts on the internet.
To start off the art-fest, here's some not-very-speedy speed paintings of David Tennant and Anne Hathaway. More art to come!

Vor Der Gitarrist
Another color test, with quick test backgrounds. No shading/lighting yet. Possibly the main colors for the characters, but I might just use different colors on a shot-by-shot basis. The cat will probably remain the same color throughout, at least up until the very end.

People Die By Falling Overboard
Quick color test, trying some stuff but ignoring shading and lighting for the most part. Not sure about the unmoving texture on the rock, especially when the very-textured backgrounds are added. Overall I think flat colors with shading/lighting on the characters will work best, maybe the colors here. And their tongues might all be crazy colors for the hell of it.

Blue Skies and Bubbles
Haven't put anything here in a while. Animation is almost finished, then comes coloring, maybe shading, sound and other stuff. Woo!

Where the Veil Came Crumbling Down
So good character animation takes a lot of time and concentration. Effects animation takes a lot of time and concentration, plus it can get much more tedious and detailed. I actually enjoy how tedious and detailed it gets, but when there isn't 24 hour access to whatever is needed to animate it becomes even more difficult to do. So after a week of stressing because I couldn't focus on the effects within the relatively small timeframe for the lab (for animating in TV Paint), it hit me that if I did only the character animation in TV Paint, but the effects animation in Toon Boom, all of my problems are instantly solved. There's a lot of other advantages I've come to realize about this, but that's the main one. The only downside is that this means an additional step of combining the various elements of each shot will be necessary next quarter, but I think that's a small price to pay for actual time to focus on the animation.
This shot's not done yet, especially apparent in the sloppy fire loop at the end, but it's a start. I'm very excited.

Will Fly Out From A Window Soon
In progress shot, not all of the eases are in and lots of other stuff still to do, but I'm okay with it so far. I'm also okay with the fact that almost none of the other shots are as detailed as this one.

So Stay Tuned to This Station
Breaking down each sequence more and more, at this point nearly all of them are ready for the next step. On Monday I'll be set to move onto the TV Paint portion of production. That'll be exciting.
